We have come to an extremely difficult time in the Body of Christ. There are an abundance of problems that seem unsolvable. An abundance of situations

2 Chronicles 20:12   O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

Psalm 123:2   Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

Matthew 21:42   Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

The other day as I was before the Lord, the phrase from 2 Chor. 20:12 came to my mind. In the circumstances I was contemplating at the time I was being overwhelmed. Although this is a condition David went through several times, each time scripture indicates it was David’s portion the circumstances are very intense. There does not seem to be a resting place for him anywhere.

One of the things that God was endeavoring to communicate to me is that, even though I have endeavored to keep my focus on the Lord Jesus, somehow, because of the intensity of the situations that I am involved in, my focus had strayed.

In another passage of the tests we have read we find that David needed to pray a prayer concerning his eyes, when he said, Our eyes wait upon the Lord our God.

In this message I want us to look at what it means to have a balanced vision. There is a passage in Revelation that shows us a company of people who have attained this lofty goal. It only comes through coming to the same position those who have attained it have come to. Turn there with me.

Revelation 4:1-8   After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.  2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.  3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. 4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. 5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. 6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. 7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.  8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

From chapter 5 we find that these beast and the four and twenty elders are representative of a company of people who attain a place in God.

Just for the record:

Revelation 5:9-10  And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

This song is sung by the four beasts and four and twenty elders.

The reason we want to point this out is recognizing who they are releases us to an understanding of the level of vision that they have attained.

There are a number of things we need to see before we look at balanced vision. The eyes on these represent the ability to see vision, history, and internally.
This people have balanced vision.

1.    Eyes before
2.    Eyes behind
3.    Eyes within

Many of God’s people today are in the condition that the Lord prophesied of one day in a fellowship I pastored.

Ingrown eyeballs are eyes that see only how things affect me, my life, my feelings, my ministry, my family, my, my, my, me, me, me.

Ingrown eyeballs can be further described from two dimensions.

1.    The natural plain
2.    The spiritual plain.

1.    The natural plain        How everything effects the natural understanding of things.
    a.    The home
    b.    The family
    c.    The neighborhood
    d.    The church
    e.    The community
It is not that these should not be affected, it is that they are not to be the focus.

2.    The spiritual plain    This is focused on how everything effects my spiritual growth. It is not that this should not be a concern, but it should not be the focus. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you. This includes spiritual growth and development.
Blindness    It is important that we describe this spiritual condition. There are a number of things that contribute to this condition. Although I do not have time to go into this, blindness in scripture is an extremely interesting study.

1.    Deuteronomy 28:15,29   But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: .......
.....29 And thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore, and no man shall save thee.
    a.    Consistent Disobedience brings blindness

2.    Deuteronomy 16:19   Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

1 Samuel 12:3  Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

    a.    Gifts or bribes blind the eyes of those receiving them. This specifically refers to those in authority and judgement.

3.    Zephaniah 1:17   And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.

    a.    Sin blinds our eyes.

4.    2 Peter 1:9   But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

    a.    He who lacks the following is blind
        i.    2 Peter 1:3-8  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
ii.      4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
iii.    And  beside this, giving all diligence,
            (1)    add to your faith virtue; and
            (2)    to virtue knowledge;
            (3)    to knowledge temperance; and
            (4)    to temperance patience; and
            (5)    to patience godliness;
            (6)    to godliness brotherly kindness; and
            (7)    to brotherly kindness charity.
            (8)    charity.
iv.    8  For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

5.    Revelation 3:17   Because thou sayest,  I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

    a.    Religious or Spiritual Pride is a cause of blindness.

6.    Romans 11:25   For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Ephesians 4:18   Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

    a.    Both of these passages refer to blindness. The word used for blindness here is translated hardness in other places. This makes it clear that blindness is a heart condition. In other places in scripture it makes it clear that understanding is a heart condition.

Coming back to the topic at hand, balanced vision.

If the balance of God is for us to be able to see on the three levels equally, then we need to define them from scripture.  Here is an interesting thought in this that in a new interpretation of an old well worn scripture.

Psalm 139:5   Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

In a quick note that we will develop more we find the following

1.    When I look before me, I should see God. I want to look at the scriptures that undergird what we are to focus on in the seeing of God, His character, and His nature.

    a.    When I look behind me, I should in some type of dimension, see God. I should see God in my history. Another way of saying this is, I should see my history as God sees it. It is HIS-story in my life.

2.    When I look up, I should see the hand of God. David said thy hand was heavy upon me.
3.    When I look within, I should see God, or the image of Christ.

    a.    2 Corinthians 3:18   But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

There are a number of things that are clearly behind me.

1.    Isaiah 38:17   Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

    a.    My sins are behind me. This is offset by the Lord Himself besetting me behind. This places Him between me and my past sins. Therefore when I look at my past, I must look at it through Him.

2.    Isaiah 30:21
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

    a.    Revelation undergirds this as well, but the voice of instruction, the Voice of the Lord is behind me.
        i.    Ezekiel 3:12   Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place.
        ii.    Revelation 1:10-12   I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,  11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. 12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

Briefly I want to list how God saw Abraham’s past, and Moses Past. This is important as it gives us illustration about how God wants us to view our past through the Lord Jesus Christ Who is the One behind us.

There is a sense in which God, in saying to Abraham, Walk before me and Be Thou Perfect, was saying to Abraham, I AM is behind you all the way. The Almighty is behind you all the way. If you will realize that your life will turn out perfect in the end. Note: God’s definition of perfection and ours is different. Perfection is walking in all the revelation that God has given you or spoken into your life through His relationship with you.

Perfection is not necessarily sinlessness.

When God recounted Abraham’s history in the New Testament, He did not talk of Abraham’s missteps.
•    Taking daddy with him when he started out
•    taking Lot with him as well
•    Giving his wife for his life in Egypt
•    Giving his wife for his life to King Abimelech of the Philistines.
•    Going into Hagar and producing Ishmael

All of the above we would say was staggering at the promise of God. God’s accounts are found in Romans,  Galatians, and Hebrews.

Moses said that he made some mistakes and told us how he saw his fleeing from Egypt.

God said,     the Hebrews account.
•    Moses chose to suffer affliction with the children of Israel
•    Moses by faith left Egypt not fearing the wrath of the king.
•    Moses not circumcising his son was not mentioned.

Philippians 3:13   Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Briefly then, how do I fulfill this passage in which Paul gives us an example of how we should view our past.

I must view my past through the Lord or the Lamb that was slain, Who stands between me and my past. He is the one that has beset me before and behind.

We have already talked some of the Ingrown Eyeballs.  I want to clearly state that I am not saying that we should never see the negative within, but, that path is so hazardous that we need the guidance of the Holy Spirit to even look at those things. When we look at them, without His guidance then we fall into pits of depression, despair, and patterns of destruction are activated in our lives.

If we do by the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body we shall live. Rom. 8:14
the context of this passage is in dealing with the carnal nature. It is not pertaining to externals but internals.

The is a vital passage that we need to consider before we continue.
Jeremiah 15:18-19  Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?  19 Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth:.....

When we are considering what is within, that we should focus on, it is not that we are ignoring the vile, it is that we are miners and our whole life is built on focusing on the gold. The vile is a necessary evil that must be dealt with, but, our focus is the gold. Here are a few things that the enemy of our souls would distract us with. I am not saying these things are not there, I am saying that focusing on them keeps us from seeing the gold God is mining in our innermost being.

1.    Psalm 109:22   For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
    a.    My poverty
    b.    My neediness
    c.    But especially my wounded heart.
2.    Psalm 142:3  When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.
    a.    My overwhelmed spirit. The feeling that I am drowning in my spirit.

One more thing concerning these passages

Psalm 139:24   And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Looking for the wickedness in us is not our job, IT IS THE JOB OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

It is the Holy Spirit that is to convict the world of sin, and of righteousness and of judgment to come not the ministry, congregation or leaders!!!!!
Because of this approach I want to help you see what you should focus on, according to the Word, when you are looking within.

1.    Psalm 40:8   I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

    a.    I should focus on the promise of God to place the law of God within my heart. I should not focus on how much of the law I keep or do not keep.

2.    Psalm 45:13   The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.

    a.    I should pray that God would cause me to see the glory or God within.
    b.    2 Corinthians 3:18  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

3.    Psalm 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

    a.    My focus needs to be on the Creator, Who alone can create a clean heart in me
    b.    and Who alone can renew a right spirit within me

4.    2 Samuel 1:9   He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me.

    a.    This indicates that there is life within us. It is important that we realize that he is talking of natural life. It is imperitive that we comprehend that there is a spiritual application of this and that in our looking within, we look for the life.

5.    Psalm 18:19   He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

    a.    We need it impressed on our spirits that God does things for us, because He delights in us. David said that the reason God brought him deliverance, and I think this applies on every dimension, is because He delighted in David.

6.    Job 19:28   But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?

7.    Job 23:6   Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.

8.    Psalm 7:8   The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.

9.    Lamentations 3:20   My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

10.    Daniel 6:22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

11.    Luke 22:37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

12.    John 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

13.    John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you

14.    Galatians 1:16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:

    a.    Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
    b.    Colossians 1:29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
    c.    1 Timothy 1:16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

15.    Philemon 6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

16.    Galatians 1:24 And they glorified God in me.

17.    Philippians 4:9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you
In closing this portion of the study, I want to give you a suggestion the direction in which to pray.

Matthew 20:33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

Jeremiah 15:19   Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

•    Jeremiah was called to return from a wrong attitude. He had asked God a major question. Why is my pain perpetual and my wound incurable.....wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar and waters that fail.
•    Returning from that attitude brought him before God.
•    Once before God new instructions were given. These instructions pertained to the way he was looking at circumstances and people.

Psalm 68:1   Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. [from His face]
▸    When we walk before God He arises and His enemies, both within, and without, scatter.
▸    They will flee because of His Face.

▸    This righteousness is a manifestation of the way of His steps or walking in His ways.

Psalm 96:6  Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

▸    As we walk before Him and through Him, (because He has beset us before) we walk into Honour and Majesty.

Zechariah 3:4   And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.
•    Only before the throne can our filthiness be cleansed.
•    I cannot take away my own filthiness.
•    Someone else must do it.
•    It is a divine work

Hebrews 12:2   Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
•    In order to be able to endure we must know that which is set before us.

2 Chronicles 34:27   Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.
•    Tender heart before the Lord
•    humble thyself before the Lord
•    weep before the Lord
✓    caused God to hear the cry of his heart.

Psalm 61:7   He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.

☞    As I come into that place of abiding before the Lord, Mercy and Truth flow into my being bringing with them a preservative power. Is this how His visitation preserves my spirit?

☞    Coming to the place of appearing before God is a place that God takes us from strength to strength preparing us to appear there.

1 Thessalonians 3:13  To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

☞    The heart of God is that we come to a place in our position before Him, that we are
•    established, or brought into a strong position of rest
•    unblamable, no one can honestly lay blame on us for anything. They have to manufacture it is they lay blame on us.
•    He wants to bring us into a place of holiness in relationship to Him.

James 1:27   Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

☞    There is a place of pure religion that is not defiled. It is a place before God.
☞    It is extremely practical
•    Visit the fatherless in their affliction or straightened circumstance
•    Visit the widows in their affliction or straightened circumstance
•    Keep ourselves unspotted from the world.

Psalm 17:14   From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

☞    God uses men as a manifestation of His hand.
●    We need Him to protect us, even as He is using them as His hand because the pattern of scripture is that they overplay their role and God has to discipline them for that.

Psalm 32:4  For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

☞    When God is dealing with us in our current circumstance it feels like He is being heavy-handed.
☞    In our relationship with God it seems that all we go through is dryness
☞    Psalm 38:2   For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.
☞    Isaiah 64:8   But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

Jeremiah 15:17   I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.

☞    God’s hand separates us even though we are sitting amongst those that do not believe that it is God’s hand upon us. They do not think that God would move or operate like that.

There are a number of manifestations of His hand in several different aspects that we need to at least mention here. They also speak of His intervention in our current circumstance.

Deuteronomy 33:3 Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words.

☞    We are in His hand.  This speaks of His hand being above us and underneath us as well, keeping us from falling.
☞    Psalm 31:15 My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

Psalm 139:10
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

☞    Here be have God holding us up and leading us as well, two different manifestations of His hand

Jeremiah 18:1-4  The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.  4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

[Matthew 21:42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? [Thought - God builds with stones that other builders reject!!]

[1 John 1:1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; [Thought - God wants us to share from our experiencing of the Word of God, Our vision of Jesus, and our hearing of His Voice.]
